Cherry Chocolates delivered to our MTC.   And packages to each of the district Elder and Sisters. (Mom thought she was funny. Josh didn't.)

Groundhog Day

Hello everyone!  I know I do this every single week and I'm sorry, but there isn’t a lot for me to say this week. We passed the half way mark of our MTC and got some new teachers who speak very little English so our lessons are 100% Portuguese now! That’s good and all but I am taking way less notes than before because I'm just trying to keep up with the language! Our new teachers are so cool though and its a lot of fun to be in the classes with them!  One day this week we joined in with a Portuguese district to pretend to be investigators and it was extra extra hard to keep track because he spoke so fast and his mic was right under his nose so every time he breathed out it sounded like he was outside in the wind, but it ended up being a really good lesson! (I apologized 4-5 times for my bad Portuguese and he didn’t even seem to mind, so that was good!)  I'm very sorry to everyone who has been reading all my emails even though they’re so short… it's just because I do...

Message from Tacoma

Dear Elder , Congratulations on your re-assignment to serve in the Washington Tacoma Mission. First, thank you for coming back out to a different mission and finishing what the Lord has called you to do. This says a lot about you and the kind of disciple of Jesus Christ you are committed to be! We are excited to welcome you to one of the most wonderful missions in the world. The Tacoma area is not only incredibly beautiful, but there are many people here whom the Lord has prepared to receive the gospel and be baptized. We understand that you were originally assigned to another country but know it is a privilege for us to have you join our mission. We will cheer you on and love you as if you had been here in Washington since the first day of your mission. We would ask you to read the talk by Elder David A. Bednar titled, "Called to the Work" from April 2017 General Conference. When you arrive at the airport on  16 Feb 2021 , Sister Metts and I will be there to welcome you with...

Farewell Talk

Image
Josh gave his farewell talk Sunday.  He did a great job, and Marte also spoke.  Because of Covid we weren't able to have the traditional farewell with family and friends.  Family was able to watch with a link to our sacrament.  I wish we could have given him the traditional send off.  But it is what it is, and Josh just rolls with it.   Oi boa tarde! My name is Elder Joshua McKee and I was called to serve in the Brazil, Curitiba south mission and was temporarily reassigned to the Tacoma Washington mission, and for some reason lately when I’ve told people that, they’ve apologized to me that I don’t get to go to Brazil yet. I’ve had to remind myself that I’m not called to Brazil, I’m called to serve, I didn’t submit my mission papers to go to Brazil, I submitted them to go on a mission. Plus, as far as I’m concerned, I just hit the jackpot and I get to serve two missions for one call! For the past 3 weeks I’ve been doing the MTC at home, which, for all y...

Que e poppin todos

Hello everyone!    i'm very sorry I forgot last weeks email, but don't worry that just means extra mission content this week!  We are going on week 4 of MTC and starting on Monday we are switching teachers to a couple of sisters who they say dont speak English… but I'm not convinced. Regardless, we will definitely be forced to speak more Portuguese! I can’t remember if I talked about the little book we had to memorize but I got it memorized in a week… that’s almost 400 words and even more phrases! The Gift of Tongues is real everyone! However, now that we got the basic core down we have even more to work on. They say the goal is between 1500-2500 words and 250-500 phrases in the next three weeks! Which is a lot but its doable and through Christ all things are possible.  Oh, I almost forgot… I got reassigned to Tacoma, Washington! I still fly out on February 16 and I’m happy to go to Washington.  I know I’ll get to  Brazil at some point in the next two yea...

Reassignment to Tacoma, Washington!

We have new information for Joshua William McKee that we ask you to provide to him.  Elder McKee has been temporarily reassigned to the Washington Tacoma Mission. He will report to the mission the week of 16 Feb 2021. The exact reporting date will be indicated on the travel itinerary that he will receive about two weeks before his departure date. The length of service in this mission is unknown, and reassignment to his original mission will be based upon conditions associated with COVID-19.  Please contact and inform Elder McKee and his family of this temporary reassignment and start date. Elder McKee has been reassigned by a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and we invite you to help him feel the sacredness of his call. He will not receive a reassignment letter. Bem Vindos Ao CTM

Well! It's not quite a week, but I made it to my first P-Day!  The MTC is a very unique experience, let me tell ya. I was not sure how it would go sitting in-front of a computer all day and how can you possibly feel the spirit alone in your basement? And the answer is with the help of an awesome district! My schedule is pretty packed most days, our first class starts at 9:30 (after we’ve done personal and companionship study and our own language study) and we are in that class for 3 hours. Then, I have an hour and a half or so of break and then we have another class until about 5-5:30. And, after that class some days we have a workshop which is with a whole bunch of districts, and its always really cool to see how the spirit can interact through 3 different language barriers!  My companions name is Elder Hurst and he’s from Layton, we are the only elders in our district but that just means that the teachers never forget who my companion is. 😂 The sisters are all very very...

Setting Apart

Image
Josh’s Missionary Setting Apart Blessing                           January 5, 2021   Stake Presidency asked us, as a family, to give Josh advice as he starts his mission. Mom:   Personality that draws people in. You’ll do great wherever you go.  Don’t change who are.  Be the Missionary you were meant to be. Dad:   you are prepared!! But don’t feel too prepared.  Keep an open mind and be ready to Make Your Own Mission.  Each Path is your own.  The things that hit you in the heart are the things that make it hard.  YOU ARE READY!  You will have miracles. Jake:   God is no respecter of persons….All Gods promises are available to all.  D&C 4:4….You aren’t here to plant seeds, you are here to Harvest.  God accepts your efforts....
