Hi Kitten!
So, this week was fun! I met some awesome people, got yelled at by a man because I didn’t understand what he said when he flirted with me, and saw a parrot!
This week we did lots of visits with members and at one point we were leaving they're house and all 4 houses in that building (because there are a bunch of houses crammed into one building) were members! As we were leaving some of the other families came and said hi to us and then the others showed up. I told them it was kinda funny that this building can hold more members than the church building right now and asked if we could do sacrament here next week.
As we were walking away this guy (I think) said something along the lines of "oi gatinho" (hi kitten) and I didn't understand him so I said "opa boa noite!" And crossed the street and he stood on the other sidewalk and yelled at us about the church for like 4 minutes. Neither of us said anything but we had our masks on and I whispered to Elder Rechetnicou "is this a man or a woman?” And, he told me to shut up, but laughed about it later. When the guy was finally done I thanked him for his time and told him "God Bless" and we walked our separate ways. He kept yelling something about how Mormons don't understand anything, but I don't speak very good Portuguese, so I'm not completely sure what he said.
This week the wife of our bishop sent us a screenshot of the Book of Mormon Videos and asked if that was me in the background, I told her yes it was and my mom was right behind me and my cousins too! She thought that was the coolest thing and circled me and sent it to the ward group chat and told everyone to come get my autograph. It was kinda funny and I had people come up to me and keep asking me if I could recommend them for a part. I told them I'd put a good word in. haha
My spiritual thought today comes from 1 Samuel 17 (David and Goliath) and the scriptures go into a lot of detail about Goliath so I did some math.
V. 4 says Goliath was 6 cubits tall. I used bible dictionary and it describes a cubit as between 17.5 and 21.5 inches. If we average those to 19.5 inches, Goliath was just under 10 feet tall!! The next verse talks about his armor saying he was armed with a coat of mail and the weight of the coat was 5000 shekels of brass! (Gospel library again) a shekel was 15.162 grams. His coat of armor weighed just over 166.5 pounds! And finally, it talks about his weapon. His spear is described in verse 7 as a "weavers beam" and the weight (just of the head) was 600 shekels (about 22 Lbs) he was pretty impressive! And very big!
But David went in with the power of the Lord, and 5 stones he found in the river.
In Verse 45 David says to Goliath "Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to the in the name of the LORD"
When each of you were baptized, you took the name of the Lord upon you. And, you do so again each time you take the sacrament. You may feel completely outmatched in the challenges of life, and you probably are honestly! Which is why its important to remember the Lord is with you and he can do amazing things with something as small as a river stone. If you put your trust in him, he can perform miracles. Like it says in Alma 37:6 By small and simple means, are great things brought to pass!
Trust in the lord and slay your Goliath!
Love, Elder McKee
