Crazy 3 weeks!
Josh's mom here: I just wanted to document the craziness that has happened in the last three week. It's been a roller coaster.
3 weeks ago, Josh was told that his visa came thru and he will go to Brazil on May 6. The same day the church came out and said that missionaries going out of the country are required to have the Covid Vaccine, or they will serve in their home countries. I called the mission office and asked what Josh should do because he didn't have time to get the vaccine. It takes 2 weeks between doses. The nurse called Josh and told him he would just go to Brazil without the vaccine and get it down there since he doesn't have enough time to get it before going.
5 days later Josh's mission President called him and told he couldn't go to Brazil without the vaccine so his flight was on hold until he could get it. The next day a member told him he could help him get the 'one and done' vaccine on Monday. And president said ok, do it. So on Monday, May 3 Josh got the vaccine. He said his joints were sore and stiff, and he didn't feel good the rest of the day, but he was fine the next day. On Tuesday afternoon, he was told he had 2 hours to pack and be at the mission office. He had to go early Wed morning to get a covid test and then fly out on Thursday. So, they hurried and threw his stuff in suitcases, said good bye to a few people, and he went to the mission home. On Wed. he went and got the covid test...he was negative...and spend the day with the office elders. Late Wed. afternoon the president came and told him Salt Lake came out with a new rule and missionaries had to have the vaccine for 7 days before leaving the country. So, Josh was sent back to his old area, and spend the next week there.
And waited a week. The next Wed was transfers, and they all went to the mission home. Josh stayed and got a covid test because he was flying out the next day. Wed. evening about 6:30 the mission home Sister called mom and asked if we had his passport. and we didn't. We had to send it to Salt Lake with his visa application. The office said they would call Salt Lake and figure out what was happening.
Thursday morning, May 13, Josh called mom to tell her what was going on. Turns out there are two Joshua McKee's going to Brazil. And our Josh does not have his visa. They got the wrong Joshua McKee and kept sending him flight information. Salt Lake still has his passport, and the visa is still in the works.
We don't know when it will come thru. For now Josh is an office elder, which he is excited about. He is in good spirits, and said he will go to Brazil sometime, but is happy to be in Washington. and to know that what is going on now.
I think mom is more frustrated than Josh is.
